Burberry Lose Rights To Their Famous Check Print
Iconic British brand Burberry were left reeling when Chinese authorities cancelled trademark protection for one of their famous check prints, Haymarket.
The authorities argued that the international multi-million company had not used the check enough for its’ leather goods in the last three years though the Burberry check has always been a registered trademark. This means no one can use this print without Burberry’s authorization. The denial to renew this trademark means that copying the print will be legal in China.
Burberry products are instantly recognizable due to their red, cream, black and white tartan print – which come in a number of variations. These are so synonymous with the brand that the Scottish Tartan Register have nick-named the print ‘Corporate Check’.
In fact the company have fought many counterfeit battles for years. These battles eventually led the brand into a slump during the ’90s as they became associated with Chav culture and their sold at discount prices on the high street. The 2000s have seen Burberry attempt to reclaim their famous prints and re-market themas a luxury good to a high-fashion young audience. Up until now, the campaign has succeeded making Burberry one of the most exclusive luxury brands on the market. Despite their confidence that they will win the appeal, this loss could be a big one for Burberry.
Lady Gaga Revealed as Versace’s official Muse for SS14
Unsurprisingly, this week Lady Gaga has been named as the official face of Versace SS14. The ‘Applause’ singer has said for years that she based her look on the one and only Donatella Versace and was even granted access to their archives in 2011 which allowed her to flaunt some of Versace’s most iconic designs in her videos and at award shows. Now, Gaga has taken it up a notch by being unveiled as this seasons muse, featuring in an ad campaign which sees Gaga in a long blonde wig a’la her idol Donatella.
Wearing a slinky violet bandage dress with diamante detailing, Gaga is seen reclining on a sofa looking pretty damn glamorous! Gaga wore the dress when she attended the American Music Awards last week, riding in on a giant white horse. Considering that Gaga has a song on her album ARTPOP entitled ‘Donatella’, it’s safe to say the choice was only natural.
Gaga could not hide her excitement on Twitter, posting ‘I’m so happy to be working w/ @Versace for the new Campaign! What do you wanna wear this Spring? #Donatella #famiglia.’
Couldn’t agree with you more Lady G, we’re just as excited as you!
Victoria and David Beckham Feature in intimate Vogue Paris cover
Style Queen Victoria Beckham is fulfilling her fashion dreams as the guest editor for French Vogue’s December issue this year. The world’s best dressed woman, designer and mother of four collaborated with Vogue Paris editor Emmanuelle Alt to create the intimate cover shot which sees herself and husband David Beckham romantically embracing.
Victoria told Vogue UK that she felt ‘honoured’ to have been asked to guest edit the French addition of the luxury Conde Nast publication and revealed that the issue would contain candid interviews with David and herself as well as a profile on her famous footballer husband. Victoria, who wowed crowds this year at New York Fashion Week with her stunning Victoria Beckham clothing collection, also hand-picked pictures from her personal photo album, fashion stories photographed by David Sims and held a ‘chat’ with her good friends at Valentino.
The issue also sees Victoria and David in beautifully captured black and white shots with Victoria sporting a emerald green evening gown and diamonds on the cover; David of course looking chic in a tuxedo. Don’t forget to snap up your own copy, though you may need to brush up on your French…
