Travel Tuesday – Ibiza

The White Isle of Ibiza is the party-loving sister of the Balearics, the world-renowned clubbing Mecca. But it is not just a place full of clubs and loud music, Ibiza has a hidden, forgotten side to it too, a rich and cultural land hidden out of the way, somewhere more suited to families or a romantic getaway rather than for your die hard clubbers, a place to relax and unwind. Ibiza really does have it all.

Yes, Ibiza is famous for its clubbing, after all, where else will you get to see the best DJ’s in the world playing in the biggest clubs all full to capacity with people lost in the sounds of their music, dancing the night away or floating through the foam parties or even out at sea on one of the party boats? With the party season now winding down the closing parties are still a huge highlight for many clubbers as it is their last chance to lose themselves…until next year that is.

2016 has an unbelievable line up of talent, with some absolute legends of the clubbing scene featured including Basement Jaxx, Kenny Dope, Dimitri From Paris, Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry, Joey Negro, The Shapeshifters, Norman Jay, David Morales and Heller & Farley to name a few. But there is one man who is synonymous with Ibiza, he has been the resident at Space for 15 years but 2016 is his final year, news that really does sadden the soul of any clubber past or present, ladies and gentleman, that man is the legend, the one and only Carl Cox!

If clubbing is not your thing than how about something else that Ibiza is world famous for…it’s sunsets. There are several locations you can visit to watch the sun go down, something that is a breathtaking sight wherever you choose to view it from on the island. But you can’t beat the magic of a sunset at Es Vedra.

Located just off the coast of Ibiza near Cala d Hort, you will see the huge limestone rock that towers up from the crystal clear sea and is shrouded in mystery and legend. Es Vedra is one of those unique spots in the world that will take your breath away every time you see it because every single sunset is different. This video simply does not do it justice but will give you an idea of its beauty.

If you want to see the real side of Ibiza then it doesn’t get much better than one of it’s most famous landmarks, Dalt Villa, an Acropolis dating back to Phoenician times. This is a place where the past meets the present. Over the centuries many invaders and settlers have added their own touch to the place and today it is a thriving walled town filled with bars, restaurants, shops and quirky corners all ready for you to explore. Dalt Villa truly has something for everyone – whether it’s the history hidden there, the culture, art or fashion, it has it all, just don’t forget to wear your sensible shoes and take your camera with you to capture the magic moments you will find there!

Ibiza is surrounded by the Mediterranean sea so that makes it perfect for some watersports, in which there are plenty to choose from. For the kids of all ages how about the water wipeout course in San Antonio bay? Ocean Mania is great fun for all the family and is guaranteed to make you laugh, whether you are tackling it yourself or just watching others try and fail. Or how about a “Sunset” boat trip? You won’t find better than Chilli Pepper Charters for this. Departing from the waterfront in San Antonio, they gently sail out of the harbour and around the coast of Ibiza with soft music playing; it truly is an unforgettable experience.
