B Sunglasses Round-up | Sunglasses News May 23rd to 29th | News

Welcome to another week of sunglasses news from B Sunglasses, and what a scorcher it’s been! Each week, we round up everything worth talking about in the world of eyewear and, of course, fashion. If you’d like to read about last week’s sunglasses news, you can find the blog post here.  This week saw teaser photos released for Rihanna and Dior’s collaboration sunglasses range and Italia Independent’s collaboration with rapper Nas, which both turned heads around the world.

Rihanna reveals Star Trek–inspired sunglasses

In a collaboration with fashion giant Dior, Rihanna has helped design a range of futuristic sunglasses inspired by the character Geordi La Forge from the television show Star Trek The Next Generation. We’re a little surprised that Rihanna was inspired by this science fiction classic, and Trekkies the world over are probably more than happy to welcome the popstar into their ranks.

French fashion house Dior unveiled this new collection of sunglasses this week, simply called ‘Rihanna’. The singer-come-designer was the lead designer on the project, and told WWD online:

I’ve always been obsessed with his [Geordi La Forge] eyewear, and when I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together.

Rihanna also discussed the design process:

The process was pretty seamless. I spent a day at Dior with their eyewear design team. I started by looking through all the archives to see what they’ve done in the past, then got acquainted with all the new materials.

The ‘Rihanna’ collection will be available next month and will feature six different colours to choose from, including red, green, blue, pink and silver. There will also be a special edition sold exclusively at Dior shops: it is a 24-karat gold-plated option and it is expected to cost a staggering $1,950.

We expect a lot more fashion and eyewear offerings from Rihanna in the near future, as recently she has been more proactive in the fashion world than she has in the music business. Rihanna worked with Dior last year on their Secret Garden IV campaign and that she has been vital to Puma’s success since she was named creative director in 2014. Keep an eye on this fashionista. We certainly are.

Italia Independent and Nas collaborate on Ghostbusters sunglasses

Given how much Hollywood loves to reboot classic films, we’re very surprised it’s taken them so long to turn their attention to the 80s paranormal comedy Ghostbusters. Although there has been some debate about whether or not fans want a Ghostbusters reboot, one thing no one seems angry about is the limited-edition Ghostbuster-themed sunglasses from Italia Independent, developed with the help of rapper and style icon, Nas.

Nas spoke about the new collection of sunglasses at the New York City launch last week:

Ghostbusters was one of my favorite childhood movies, and it was important to me to partner with a brand like Italia Independent for this collaboration because they understand style and culture… I wanted to design a collection that speaks to the nostalgia of that era while keeping it fresh fun, sleek and wearable.

All of the frames have digitally printed patterns inspired by the new film. The look is a fusion of modern styles with an 80s retro/kitsch twist. Keep an eye out for the new film, and this exciting range of sunglasses.
