B Sunglasses Round-up | Sunglasses News Jan 30 – Feb 05 | News

Welcome to this week’s B Sunglasses Round-up here at B Sunglasses. Each week, we gather together the biggest eyewear and sunglasses news and put it in one place, so that you can get up to speed with the latest news without having to go on a bunch of different websites. Last week, we talked about the launch party for Prada’s Cinéma sunglasses and our amazing January Giveaway Extravaganza. This week, we’re looking at Alana Hadid’s (Gigi’s sister) new line of sunglasses and a new pair of sunglasses with a contactless payment device fixed into the side of one of its arms.

Gigi Hadid’s Sister Alana Has Released a New Line of Sunglasses

Anyone interested in fashion has heard of Gigi Hadid’s meteoric rise to the top of the modelling world, along with her model sister, Bella. You might not have heard about Gigi’s half-sister, Alana, who found her own way into the fashion industry, only as a designer rather than model. Alana and her father, Mohamed, have teamed up to design a line of sunglasses called Hadid Eyewear and they look really great.

The sunglasses line is inspired by travel, so there are different models in the collection with travel-themed names, such as Passport Control and Frequent Flyer, for example. It’s great seeing more fresh designers make their way into the eyewear industry and we look forward to seeing what else Alana Hadid comes up with next.

Contactless Payments and Sunglasses Join Forces at Australian Festival

This year, people attending the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival in five of Australia’s cities will be trialling the exciting WaveShades: sunglasses with a contactless payment device fitted onto the sunglass’ arm to allow wearers to make fast, easy payments. WavesShades are the product of teamwork between Visa, Local Supply (a sunglasses manufacturer) and Inamo (an Australian start-up company). Obviously, during a busy festival, with thousands of people, it would be very beneficial for people to be able to pay for drinks, food, etc. without having to mess about with their wallets and wait for change or put their pin numbers into a payment machine. Time will tell whether WaveShades are a practical (and stylish) way to make purchases. It’s certainly an interesting idea and we’re keen to see how successful this trial run is. You can watch a video about Inamo’s WaveShades below:

This week, we’re really excited to see the new YouTube video from Charlotte Buttrick on her channel Lurchhoundloves. Charlotte looks amazing in her new sunglasses and all of the other beautiful things featured in her video. You can watch the entire video below; look out for the sunglasses at around the 7:00 mark.

Brand Spotlight: Ralph Lauren

This week, Eve wrote a detailed brand spotlight of one of our top designer brands: Ralph Lauren. You can read the whole spotlight here. However, I’d like to include a smaller spotlight here, outlining a little bit about the history of Ralph Lauren and suggest a few of our favourite pieces for you to consider.

The talented young Ralph Lauren worked for Beau Brummell, a tie manufacturer, and he convinced the company’s president to allow him to design an entire collection of ties. Then Ralph Lauren brand started out in 1967 with a range of men’s ties. From there, Lauren brought in his interest in sport and designed his first line of menswear: Polo. Since then, his Polo line has become absolutely legendary.  Over the years, Ralph Lauren became famous for his preppy, sporty aesthetic, using primary colours in bold and confident ways.

Ralph Lauren was the CEO behind the brand until 2015, when he stepped down. However, he has stayed on as the chief creative officer, so his sense of style will continue on for many years to come. With Ralph Lauren’s eyewear, you’ll fine strong, bold lines with a simple, understated colour palette. Check out our Ralph by Ralph Lauren and Polo by Ralph Lauren collections, but here are a few highlights to whet your appetite:

And that’s all of the sunglasses and eyewear news we have for you this week. Come back next week for another B Sunglasses Round-up!
