Welcome to this week’s B Sunglasses Round-up. Each week, we gather together the biggest news stories about sunglasses and eyewear and we put them all in one place for our readers. Our goal is to make our weekly round-ups the best place for people who love sunglasses to find out about the latest trends and technologies in the eyewear industry. Last week, we talked about geometric sunglasses and about how good Ashley Benson from Pretty Little Liars looked in her geometric sunglasses when she posted some holiday pics on Instagram. We also talked about our amazing January giveaway extravaganza, where we decided to give away lots of incredible sunglasses to our social media followers. This week we’re going to go follow on with our January giveaways and look at a new virtual reality headset that looks so much like a pair of sunglasses that it’s got us wondering if the two industries will ever come together…
New Dlodlo Virtual Reality Headset Looks Like Sunglasses

In the world of the clunky virtual reality headsets, VR pioneers Dlodlo this week released news of their VR1 Headset, which is so small and stylish that some people mistook them for sunglasses. This similarly has got us thinking about other virtual reality headsets and whether or not sunglasses and VR headsets will ever join forces. If Snap’s Spectacles and the Oakley Radar Pace are signs of the future of eyewear tech, then we have every reason to expect that VR and sunglasses will be combined, and perhaps sooner than later. Here are a few of the most recent VR headsets; can you imagine anyone wearing one as a fashion statement?

Snapchat Is Establishing Itself in the UK
Snap is the official name for the parent company that owns the ubiquitous Snapchat app and the exciting new Spectacles sunglasses that come with built-in camera and short-film message feature. Previously, we have reported on their entry into the sunglasses industry with great interest. And it is with similar interest that we report on the news that Snap is going to bill its international advertisement revenue in the UK instead of in a country with softer taxation, such as Ireland, where Facebook and Apple’s international HQs are based.
Although Snap’s global HQ is in Venice, they are billing their UK advertisement revenue in the UK and they have expanded their UK offices. They have also begun hiring more people in the UK. When asked about their interest in the UK (and London), Snap said that London “was a great place to build a global business” because of the “UK’s strong creative industries”.
We believe in the UK creative industries. The UK is where our advertising clients are, where more than 10 million daily Snapchatters are, and where we’ve already begun to hire talent.”

Considering Snap’s Soho office now has over 75 employees and it only had six at the beginning of 2016, it definitely seems like Snap is settling into the UK. We hope this means good things for the UK economy, and we hope it means good things for the sunglasses industry as Snap’s Spectacles begin to spread around Europe.

Brand Spotlight: Prada

Prada was founded by Mario Prada in 1913 in Milan, the fashion capital of the world. Originally, the business’s main products were luxury trunks and leather bags, but it gradually built up its clothing offering and sunglasses collections over the years, and it has been at the top of the fashion industry for almost a century. Prada is famous for its haute couture fashion and its sleek eyewear designs. Despite other Italian designers leaning towards huge, ostentatious sunglasses designs, Prada has a cool, understated aesthetic that never seems to go out of style.
