The new year means fresh inventions in the eyewear technology industry. Over the past year or so, numerous companies have been attempting to put a computer in your sunglasses, but few have managed to produce or sell a working product. Now, Vuzix have created a new augmented reality pair of shades that are already being met with positive reviews. The Vuzix Blade AR glasses are on sale for £999 with a four to six week wait. The small, lightweight pair is fit with lenses with a built in displayed powered by Vuzix’s custom software and Amazon Alexa. You can see everything from directions, to weather forecasts, to alerts.

The Blade sunglasses run on Android and supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, so you can be connected to your smartphone without having to use it. The high-resolution display screen is designed to work both indoors and out, even in sunlight, and there’s an 8-megapixel camera. The pair can even be fit with prescription lenses. Again, this new development has us only wondering what the future holds for the eyewear technology industry.
