B Sunglasses Round-up | Sunglasses News 14 – 20 | News

Welcome to this week’s B Sunglasses Round-up. Each week, we find the biggest sunglasses and eyewear news and put it all in one place. On last week’s blog we looked at Snapchat’s strange “Snapbot” vending machines they unrolled in different cities throughout the US to promote their new sunglasses with an in-built camera. This week, we’re looking at, Westward Leaning, who are offer customers the chance to design their own sunglasses. We’re also looking at our on-going pre-Christmas sale, and our new video outlining several other non-Ray-Ban® Wayfarer options.

Westward Leaning Offers Customers a Chance to Design Their Own Sunglasses

For anyone looking for an absolute sense of originality from their sunglasses, Westward Leaning might be exactly what they’re looking for. The company is offering people the chance to design their own custom-built sunglasses, choosing from materials, designs, additional design accents, and anything else you can think of. Westward’s creative director, Robert Denning, had this to say about the project:

With Westward Leaning Custom, the era of design despotism is over, and we’re excited to share the design process with our diverse customer base.

The main point behind this venture is that normal people without the design connections of famous music stars and models will still be able to design and obtain their own high-end sunglasses. It is tapping into the frustration some people feel when they find a celebrity with amazing custom-built sunglasses and have no way to follow suit.

In a way, this is build-a-bear for sunglasses, and it might be very successful, but it is unlikely to take over from the top eyewear brands, who spend millions on the design process, employing experienced designers to come up with the most beautiful, contemporary sunglasses designs in the world. But it’s a great idea, and we’re interested to see how their business develops.

Brand focus: Guess

This week, we’re focusing on Guess. Guess is the Los Angeles–based fashion label most famous for its designer denim. Over the years, Guess moved onto other collections too, including a particularly impressive line of sunglasses. The Guess fashion house was founded by two brothers, Paul and Maurice Marciano, and its early success was due to its clever advertising campaigns and careful choice of models, including Anna Nicole Smith, Keva Herzigova, and Claudia Schiffer.

When it comes to eyewear, Guess is fond of vibrant colours and classic, 60s, 70s, and 80s-inspired designs—but everything they produce, whichever decade its inspired by, always has a modern sense to it. Have a look through our entire Guess sunglasses collection to find out more, but here are a few of our highlights:
