Welcome to another B Sunglasses Round-up here at B Sunglasses. Each week, we find the biggest sunglasses news stories and put them all in one place for our readers. We also include any B Sunglasses news, such as competitions, giveaways, new designer brands, and anything else we think our customers might what to know! On last week’s round-up, we talked about the new range of Jimmy Choo optics here at B Sunglasses, and the free Glare Wayfarers we were giving away last Tuesday as part of National Sunglasses Day. This week, we’re reporting back from our buying trip to Trieste to see top eyewear manufacturer Marcolin, and we’re looking at a new poll that asked Brits who they thought was the greatest sunglasses wearer of all time…
Buying Trip to the Italian City of Trieste
This week, the B Sunglasses buying team visited luxury eyewear manufacturer Marcolin in the beautiful Italian city of Trieste, close to the Slovenian border. The Marcolin buying day event was held at the Excelsior Palace Hotel. Marcolin is a huge eyewear supplier, with brands like Tom Ford, Moncler, and Guess on its roster. The B Sunglasses team were very impressed with the sights and sounds of the city of Trieste (pictured above), which is a fitting backdrop for a company specialising in beautiful eyewear.
Philly, our eCommerce Manager, was kind enough to model these gorgeous new Guess sunglasses. Not sure if he’s the target demographic, however…
The team we’re lucky enough to have a sneak peek at the very latest releases from Guess, Tom Ford, Moncler, and DSquared – and they managed to purchase a number of exciting new styles for B Sunglasses from the Tom Ford and Guess collections – so keep an eye out for the new arrivals in the near future.
During the trip, our B Sunglasses buyers noticed a strong trend for gold metal frames and we’re all really excited about the new Guess Eye Candy collection aimed at 18-25 year olds. These buying trips are a brilliant opportunity to see what styles the biggest brands are bringing out in the coming months and to add even more choice to our designer glasses and sunglasses collections.
Sunglasses Poll: Audrey Hepburn is the Greatest Sunglasses Wearer of all Time!
Last week, a poll carried out by Scrivens Opticians and Hearing Care asked 2,000 Brits a bunch of questions about sunglasses and got some interesting answers. They asked participants who they thought were the greatest sunglasses wearers of all time and the top ten were as follows:
- Audrey Hepburn
- Elvis Presley
- Marlon Brando
- Brigitte Bardot
- John Lennon
- Jackie Onassis
- Arnold Schwarzenegger (specifically from the Terminator movies)
- Ryan Gosling
- Tom Cruise
- Steve McQueen
Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is the top pick and it’s easy to see why. This film also gave us ‘the little black dress’ and some of the most iconic moments in cinema. There were some other unsurprising top picks, such as John Lennon (with his famous round sunglasses) and Tom Cruise, who famously brought Wayfarers back into fashion after his famous dance scene in Risky Business.
Brand in the Spotlight: French Connection
The brand in the spotlight this week is French Connection. Eve wrote a full spotlight article earlier in the week, but I’d like to say a little bit about French Connection here as well.
The French Connection brand was founded in 1972, in London, by designer Stephen Marks. Although based in the UK, French Connection has branches all over Europe, the US, and Canada. The whole ethos behind French Connection was to make catwalk-inspired clothes and accessories but at affordable prices for the high street.
A big game changer for French Connection came when they started referring to themselves as FCUK. The controversial name increased the brand’s popularity massively, and it actually had an innocent origin, as it was simply the abbreviation for the UK French Connection branch when they faxed their Hong Kong branch. French Connection has a distinctive style and affordable price tags, so check out our French Connection sunglasses collection today, but here are a few of our favourites to whet your appetite:
Don’t Forget to Read our Glastonbury 2017 Eyewear Edit!
It seems like everyone is talking about Glastonbury. It’s arguably the greatest music festival in the world, and it should make any Brit proud that it takes place on our little island. Earlier in the week, Jake wrote a fantastic article looking at the different sunglasses spotted on the musicians and celebrities attending the festival. Make sure to read our Glastonbury 2017 Eyewear Edit to see what sunglasses your favourite stars wore to the festival!
That’s all the sunglasses news we have time for this week. Please come back next week for another B Sunglasses Round-up!
