B Sunglasses Round-up | Sunglasses News Feb 27 – Mar 05 | News

Welcome to another weekly news round-up here at B Sunglasses. Each week, we gather together all the biggest sunglasses and eyewear news stories and put them all into one place. We cover the latest brands, trends, sports, and technology in the eyewear industry, and we also cover our own news, talking about our competitions, latest collections, sales, and anything else we think our customers might want to know. Last week, we looked at Samsung’s AR sunglasses and our new Gucci collection here at B Sunglasses. This week, we’re talking about our exciting buying trip to one of Luxottica’s factories just a little north of Venice. We’re also talking about Dolce & Gabbana’s new collection and the last day of our incredible flash sale!

B Sunglasses Buying Trip to Venice

This week, Philly, Rachel and Sarah from the B Sunglasses team flew to Venice to visit one of Luxottica’s factories in Sedico, just a little north of Venice. Luxottica is the biggest sunglasses company in the world; it owns the many of the biggest, most recognisable design brands on the planet, such as: Ray-Ban®, Oakley, Prada, Miu Miu, Versace, Michael Kors, Bvlgari, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, and Valentino. So, needless to say, Philly and Rachel were in Heaven.

It was a brilliant chance for Rachel, Philly, and Sarah to see behind the scenes of the biggest eyewear supplier in the world, seeing the care and detail that goes into every single pair of sunglasses and glasses they make.  The factory is open 24 hours a day; with the workload split between three different shift patterns, an astounding 240,000 units leave the factory every single day! Unfortunately, we were not permitted to take any photos of videos on the tour.

One thing we’re especially excited about is Valentino, which we’ll be re-launching on the site later this month. Valentino has moved over from Marchon to Luxottica, which is why the Valentino collection is available to us. The models are stunning and we can’t wait to see what our customers make of them!

As always, we were blown away by the latest releases at Luxottica and we can’t wait to have the different glasses and sunglasses live on the site. While you wait for them, we thought we’d summarise what’s in store for SS17:

Clear pastel/retro lens colours are key this season, and retro-shaped sunglasses and glasses frames will be everywhere. There will be a lot more white and shield/visor shapes this year – across all collections. Also, double bridge sunglasses and glasses in a variety of styles and materials are big across all brands and are going to be huge this summer. As with the last few seasons, round sunglasses will be everywhere, along with lots of retro and oversize versions with some beautiful detailing that will be absolutely perfect for festival season. A lot more brands are using flat lenses in a variety of frame shapes, which is something Ray-Ban® trail blazed last season. There seems to be a real trend for a fuller cat shape look on the new cateye releases. And there’s some good news for any Ray-Ban® Jackie O fans: polarised Jackie O sunglasses are coming and they look amazing!

Brand in the spotlight: Dolce & Gabbana

Earlier this week, Eve wrote an incredible article discussing Dolce & Gabbana’s new advertising campaign and its new collection of sunglasses – many of which are available here, at B Sunglasses. Follow the link above to the full article, which comes complete with stunning images and astute insight into D&G’s new collection and their interesting new marketing strategy using young online fashion influencers across a variety of digital mediums.

Dolce & Gabbana’s first fashion collection was in 1986, designed by Domenico Dolce (from Palermo in Sicily) and Stefano Gabbana (from Milan). The collection was called “Real Women” and it was an immediate success. They followed this with a knitwear range in 1987. Since then, the brand established itself as a huge name in the fashion world and it began designing sunglasses in the 90s.

Dolce & Gabbana’s eyewear aesthetic is stylish but understated, all with a dark, subtle colour palette. Look out for big cateye designs, as well as Italian twists on some eyewear classics, such as Aviators and Clubmasters.
