B Sunglasses Chicken Wing Challenge | 5th Birthday Bash

Last week marked as significant landmark in the B Sunglasses calendar as the company celebrated their 5th Anniversary! To make sure our fifth birthday went off with a bang we decided to invite a few competitors down to our office in Hoults Yard to complete a B Sunglasses Chicken Wing Challenge…

B Sunglasses have been celebrating a few victories this week such as finally reaching 4,000 followers on Twitter, over 1,500 followers on Instagram and coming within inches of the 15k mark on Facebook.

In true Man vs. Food style, B Sunglasses set a challenge  for each competitor to consume 10 chicken wings marinated in one of the hottest sauces known to man;  a killer combination of Dave’s Gourmet Insanity Sauce, 100% Pain, Blair’s Sudden Death and Frank’s B Sunglasses Sauce. We’re going to warn you, this recipe is certainly not recommended for the faint hearted! With 150 super hot chicken wings on the grill and 15 competitors, we decided to invite everyone in Hoults Yard, to see the spectacle unfold!

Representing Team B Sunglasses we had our MD Phil Blackett, otherwise known as ‘The Food Dude’ for his scathing reviews on TripAdvisor; our in-house E-Commerce manager and meat aficionado Philly; Karl, the man with a mouth of steel and our warehouse manager Matt who’s always up for a challenge!

If the office sweepstakes wasn’t pressure enough, our other entrants included Visualsoft’s John Ryder, Neil from Three Motion Media, blogger and local foodie Lauren Archer from Silverbean and Chemistry Marketing’s Richard Havelock.

At around 4.30PM our contestants were lined up to take their place in the challenge. Our Brand Manager Sarah, also known as Queen Cupcake, had whipped up some of her famous Chilli Chocolate cupcakes for the occasion as well as sneaking some ultra-hot Scotch Bonnets into a few for unsuspecting chocolate fans… The prize of course was a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses which we hoped might cool things down after the baptism of fire!

After the whistle was blown, our contestants tried to pile as many chicken wings into their faces as possible with many feeling the burn of a thousand suns scorching their lips. We didn’t just recommend rubber gloves for nothing! Whilst at one point it looked like The Food Dude might take the title, Judge Julie Kemp (our site-manager at Hoults Yard) made Phil scoff what was leftover to qualify. However, by then Visualsoft’s John Ryder had already taken the title, completing the challenge at around 1 minute and 30 seconds. John’s methodical approach tells us this wasn’t his first food challenge!

Lighting our cupcake tower birthday cake and awarding John with the highly coveted prize of Ray Ban sunglasses, an official winners T-shirt and the adulation of his peers; our Friday challenge proved to be a huge success. With hopefully another five years in the bag, we hope John can retain his title in 2016!
