Sunday marked the beginning of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, presenting some of the most beautiful and well-made clothing in the world (haute couture translates as ‘high sewing’, so the tailoring is of the utmost importance). However, sometimes the most interesting and innovative fashion can come from the streets surrounding show spaces outside fashion weeks, through the bloggers, celebrities and fashion –oriented crowds that these events attract. Street style can be anything you make it, and unlike much catwalk fashion there are no rules, so inevitably there will be some more outrageous looks making an appearance; but isn’t that the fun of fashion week? We’ve picked out some of the best trends we’ve seen at PHCFW so far.
Stop thinking about co-ordination; if you like it, wear it, whether that jacket matches your shoes or not. Effortless fashion means looking like you haven’t really thought about what you’re wearing and you’ve thrown on whatever was at hand (of course, the worst kept secret of the fashion industry is that nothing is ever effortless).
Plain and simple
Some people choose fashion week as the time to go wild, trying to catch the attention of the countless photographers and bloggers who flock to the area, but there’s nothing wrong with keeping it simple. Much of the time, the most minimal outfits can be the most striking and stylish; just look at the success of fashion house J.W. Anderson for proof.
Pop of colour
Whether you’re aiming to blind with pigment and pattern, or you’re going for a more subtle flash of colour, don’t be afraid to incorporate something bright into your wardrobe. You can still keep it simple while adding some edge with a bit of fluoro, and there’s no better time to tart up your style than summer.
