Oakley | 30 Years Of Heritage: Cycling Campaign

Oakley are certainly one of our most popular brands here at B Sunglasses but being one of the biggest manufacturers in the world who use the most up-to-date technology, it’s easy to forget that they are celebrating 30 years of heritage this year. 

Their current campaign kicks off with a celebration of their cycling glasses which are a hot favourite with those participating in this years’ Grand Tours. Featuring Cadel Evans of the BMC racing team, the campaign uses the tagline ‘Disruptive By Design’ to reflect the hard-wearing, fast-paced nature of the Oakley lifestyle. The instantly recognizable Radarlock sunglasses also pay the ultimate homage to their three decade long heritage with the campaign. Designed in 1984, the ultra-durable Radarlock frames are the focus of Oakley’s current press campaign with their vibrant colour-ways, technical advancements and of course, those distinctive changeable lenses that make them wearable no matter what the conditions.

Oakley had humble beginnings in California, 1975 with just $300 to their name . Founder James Jannard wanted to create sports eyewear with a difference, basing his creations on the practical wants and needs of motorcross racers. He would sell his own home-made frames out the boot of his car at motorcross events- made from his now signature lightweight unique material Unobtanium . By 1980 he had created the O-Frame goggle which gathered momentum leading Jannard and Oakley to become the worlds most innovative manufacturer of ski goggles.

Over the years Oakley had land marked their successes with increasingly modernized, technical  and highly engineered frames. From their very  first pair of sunglasses; the Factory Pilot Eye-shades to the now iconic and colourful Oakley Frogskins, Oakley have transformed from a privatised sports eyewear manufacturer to an international, sought after luxury brand.
