New Arrivals from Prada

Prada‘s designs always merge art with fashion to produce collections of astonishing creativity. Their artful work is why they are leading figures in fashion season after season. We’ve got some brand new arrivals from Prada; defined by this remarkable creativity and they’re essential for summer 2018.

Miuccia Prada has a deep interest in contemporary art; it influences her work in fashion daily. In 2015 Prada opened the Fondazione Prada, an exhibition space in a former gin distillery. The architecture is as remarkable as the inspiring projects showcased there. Recently, Prada have announced the completion of the Fondazione Prada complex. The final Torre, will be open to the public on 20th April; a 60-metres-high white concrete tower that has become an iconic landmark of the Fondazione, as it sticks out majestically into Milan’s urban skyline. Torre is nine levels, with six exhibition spaces, a restaurant and a panoramic terrace hosting a rooftop bar. The exhibitions will display works and large instillations from the Prada collection, as well as works from 20th and 21st century artists, both Italian and international.

Prada campaign 2018
Prada campaign 2018

The latest campaign from Prada Real Life Comix, explores contemporary art and fashion in an exciting narrative. The collection melds reality with the virtual world and recreates images from life as those from graphic novels. For the SS18 Menswear collection, the work draws on the narrative imagery, by artists James Jean and Ollie Schrauwen, that decorated the Prada showspace as well as the collection. The work is captured by Willy Vanderperre, with sharply contrasting black and white images that express an unfolding storyline. The pieces are like juxtaposed panes of a comic book and add up to a reflection on the mutli-faceted world of Prada.

For the SS18 Womenswear collection, the Real Life Comix campaign presents women, by women. A modern vision of feminism and femininity, framed by female graphic artists. The work of our female heroes appears on the clothing designs as stunning backdrops. Brigid Elva, Joëlle Jones, Stellar Leuna, Guiliana Maldini, Natsume Ono, Emma Ríos, Trina Robbins, Fiona Staples and Tarpé Mills (the creator of the first female action hero), all have work donning the new collection. The women’s campaign is photographed by Willy Vanderperre too. The Belgian photographer has made the graphic novel come to life and Prada’s diverse cast of models are transformed into avatars of dynamism, authors of their own destiny, and heroines of their own stories. The Real Life Comix campaign is both beautifully artistic and utterly inspiring.

Prada’s new arrivals are full of energy and are artistically playful like their other collections.
