Last week the team at Hoults yard participated in the Macmillan Cancer Support World’s Largest Coffee Morning, welcoming businesses from around the yard to come and enjoy an array of beautifully decorated cakes and try their luck at winning something from the impressive selection of raffle and tombola prizes, with all money donated going to Macmillan.
With the final of Great British Bake Off looming it was perfect timing to hold a bake off. Many people from around the Yard entered their cakes in hope they were good enough to win the prizes up for grabs. Our general manager Phil Blackett famed for his review contribution to Trip Advisor sat alongside Carol Malia from BBC Look North, and North East Blogger Sarah Bosson, on the judging panel.
In addition to the Bake Off and raffle there was a variety of cakes available to purchase, along with different flavoured teas by The TeaShed, another Newcastle based brand. Macmillan themed balloons, table clothes and bunting decorated the room.
Check out the judges below tucking in to some of the delicious bake off entries. Top entries included coffee and walnut cakes, a beautifully decorated chocolate cake, and even a rainbow cake.
With no hesitation all three judges were eager to announce the over-all winner of “Best looking cake”. We’re pretty positive everybody else would agree that this cake was outstanding. The cake was made by RB Group who also went on to win a few more places with other cakes they had entered, unbeknown to the judges. The winning cake had light projected onto it to create different effects, constantly changing to keep people intrigued. Well done RB Group!!
Over all the coffee morning was a success, with Hoults Yard managing to raise a staggering £1300 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
