Logan see’s Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart team up again in the 9th instalment in the X-Men film series, and this, the 3rd of the standalone Wolverine movies.
Hugh Jackman plays everyone’s favourite X-Man, Wolverine – AKA Logan, the mutant with the accelerated healing, an Adamantium skeleton and deadly claws. The film takes inspiration from the comic book Old Man Logan by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven and is based in a near future where no new mutants have been born in over 2 decades.
Patrick Stewart also returns to his role of Professor X – AKA Charles Xavier, who is not the leader of the X-Men anymore and is in fact now old and infirm and being cared for by Logan and Caliban (played by Stephen Merchant).
We are sure by now you will have seen the trailer (if not you can view it below), in which you see another young mutant with Logan with some very familiar abilities, this is newcomer Dafne Keen who portrays X-23 – AKA Laura Kinney.
Logan gives a more violent and adult portrayal of one of Marvel’s favourite characters, which is a shame for the younger fans who love the character of Wolverine, but for the older fans this is the version they’ve all been waiting for.
Hugh Jackman has said that he intends Logan to be his final portrayal of the character after having played the role for 17 years. Though after the success of Deadpool back in 2016, its star Ryan Reynolds is determined to get Jackman to change his mind and play Wolverine one last time which will give the fans the ultimate comic book film and the ultimate team up. If Reynolds can convince him then this could be the film that all Marvel fans have been waiting for.
So in a nutshell, this is a very different kind of X-Men/Wolverine movie, it is definitely not one for the kids with its action scenes, violence and language. It is a great story, but not one you will expect to see, this is not the Wolverine you know, this is a very different beast indeed…this is Logan!
