2018 has been big and busy for fashion. The urgency of the social and political climate has driven the industry into new directions of activism and diversity. New directors have been appointed, anniversaries have been celebrated, yet we’ve also lost some fashion icons. Here’s the highlights from a year to remember:
Last week, at the Fashion Awards 2018, Creative Director of Valentino Pierpaolo Piccioli took home the prestigious Designer of the Year award. Celebrating the past 12 months of fashion with a tinkling ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall, the Fashion Awards 2018 saw the industry’s most-established designers as well as some of talented from the new generation awarded for their contributions. As with every year, the most-stylish celebs in the world assemble for the ceremonies in the latest collections. Here’s the best dressed guests of 2018…
25 years after his Grunge Collection rocketed him to stardom, Marc Jacobs is bringing it back with a new Resort 2019 collection filled with the same Beetlejuice stripes and beanies. Jacobs is celebrating the anniversary of the Teen Spirit mood. Just as the most iconic models of 93’, Kate and Naomi, modelled his collection back then, non-other than Gigi and Kaia are the faces of 2018.
Over the years the fashion industry has grown increasingly politically conscious. Success in the world of fashion gives both individuals, as well as companies, a platform and a voice. Kering, the super company who own designer houses such as Gucci and Alexander McQueen, have used their visibility and influence to help others. This year marks the decade anniversary of the establishment of the Kering Foundation: a charity working to protect women against violence across the world.
2018’s E! People’s Choice Awards was held this week, recognising people in entertainment and all voted for online by the public. As ever, the celebrity guests were dressed in their finest wears to make their way down the red carpet.
Throughout the decades animal print and, more specifically, leopard print has survived the turn of the trends. From it’s Hollywood glamour phase, to its 80s spandex glam-rock era, to the naughty nineties, animal print has defined popular fashion. This season, it’s back on the runways, lining the rails of our favourite high-street shops and prominent in the designs of the latest eyewear collections.
It’s Halloween week and even if you don’t dress up it’s always fun to see the celebrities spend the money and professional help they have to pull together amazing costumes. Here’s the best from last year and this year…
