Fashion Week | Blogger Takeover Top Tips

London Fashion Week seems like an age ago but we’re still not over the buzz surrounding the British catwalks for Autumn/Winter 2015-16. Some of our favourite blogger headed down to Somerset House for a scoop on the action and of course, what fashion week outfit is complete without a pair of sunglasses?

Check out the coverage from our blogger takeover with Maddie Magpie of ModeMadeleine and Amy and Naomi of Two Shoes, One Pair as well as some of the looks they spotted and learn a little more about how our bloggers choose their perfect fashion week wardrobes….

How do you choose your Fashion Week look?
‘As a blogging duo, London Fashion Week is an amazing opportunity to get some high quality, natural street style shots of us together so we always try and make this appealing to photographers by coordinating our outfits carefully. We choose a ‘theme’ each day that – this could be a colour, a trend, anything! – and then we build our own individual outfits around that theme. For the Saturday, we had a matching print (Amy in trousers and Naomi in shorts). This print gave us plenty of lee-way with adding our own touches to the matching pieces as the colours were easy to match up. Amy went for a slick tailored look with blazer and blouse and Naomi went for clashing prints and double snakeskin. We both finished off the look with coats of the same shape. We love dressing the same, we love dressing different. This was the perfect combination between the two.

Top Fashion Week Tips:

  • Check check check that weather and keep options open for dramatic conditions! We have done LFW in show and blistering heat and getting your outfit to work around mother nature is essential to enjoying your time.
  • Go all out, but don’t step outside your comfort zones. You need to feel super confident in what you’re wearing to get the most out of any outfit.
  • Sunglasses add all the glamour, and hide all those tired eyes

How did you end up blogging?

Amy is a full-time carer and Naomi works as the Online Styling manager at vintage brand Beyond Retro. We met whilst working together as stylists for Topshop and hit it off straight away, both originally from Oxford, we’d both set up homes in London and shared the same huge passion for clothes and trends. When it came to us parting ways as colleagues, neither of us wanted to lose the close friendship and incredible work chemistry we had so set up ‘Two Shoes One Pair’ just as an excuse to meet up every week! We never expected it to grow into what it has, but it’s become something extremely special to the two of us, and we’re closer than ever.

Two Shoes One Pair, is essentially a ways-to-wear blog. We both love the same trends that are on the catwalk, high street and those that come about just from street style but we both wear them so differently, and felt there was a gap in the market for this kind of publication and believe that this unique take on blogging got us so much recognition so quickly!

Since starting the blog – almost 2 years ago now – we have worked with some of our most loved brands, have covered multiple events such festivals and London Fashion week and we’ve managed to squeeze in Amy having a baby and Naomi getting engaged too! ‘

How do you choose your Fashion Week look?
To prepare and plan my outfits for London Fashion Week each season, I gather a vast amount of inspiration from street style on Pinterest, other blogs, fashion magazines and in store styling. I always stay true to my personal style when compiling a look for LFW, and I can either be inspired by a current trend or just go with something I generally like at the time, which may not be trend led. This season, it is quite clearly all about the Seventies and I was hugely influenced by this trend for my outfit for day 1 of LFW. My personal taste has evolved from dressing in lots of colour and patterns, into enjoying the neutral colour palettes as well as monochrome, so I didn’t go all out crazy Seventies for this look, I kept it fairly simple with neutral tones – but with key elements for 70’s styling; faux fur, a cape, flared jeans and of course these incredible Miu Miu sunglasses to finish off the look!

What do you love about fashion week?
I have been attending London Fashion Week for about 4 years now, and I love it just as much now as I did when it was new to me. I find it fascinating to see the huge diversity of personal style all congregating together in one place to celebrate British Fashion. I love to people watch – & Somerset House sure is the place for it come February and September! There are so many other aspects of LFW I love – catching up with blogger friends is always great, the parties, the champagne and canapés, but the main thing I love about it all is seeing the shows, which is of course, what it’s all about. I feel so lucky and priviledged that I am able to see the new trends for the season ahead emerging in front of me on the catwalk – you just can’t beat the atmosphere and excitement of a live show.

What were your favourite looks this year?
It is safe to say the biggest trend apparent within street style, as well as in many of the collections for next season, is the Seventies – pretty much anything goes when it comes to that era, which is what makes it so fun and exciting! Another trend I’m excited to see isn’t going anywhere is the roll neck! I’ve been living in these babies, and just think they’re so easy to wear, very versatile and flattering on the majority of body shapes – here’s to another season of concealing the neck!

Highlights from this season would have to be seeing Ella Eyre perform live at the Gyunel show, meeting Sam Faires from TOWIE and Rosie Londoner, and the Orla Kiely presentation was one of my all time favourites to date.

How did you get into blogging?
I got into blogging after completing a 2.1 degree in Fashion Photography at University to continue to document my creative work and inspirations, which led to the documentation of outfit posts. I am a Studio Trained Photographic Stylist but my day job is Marketing Assistant & Mama to my beautiful boy (18m old Theo).

How do you choose your Fashion Week look?
So my little equation for choosing my LFW outfits has to go with comfort first. I’m well seasoned at Fashion Week enough to know that being cold and having sore feet is enough to ruin your day. The 70’s are a massive trend on the horizon so I opted for a few different twists on the ’70s this season with one staple slogan jumper with trainers, which I find never goes out of style!

I had the incredible opportunity to work alongside Schwarzkopf this season so I’ve been backstage and front row to see how a show is really put together!

How did you get into fashion blogging?
My blog began as a way to put my love for trend into one place and it has blossomed organically over the past 3 years. I work in Social Media for ASOS and move to London very soon!

How do you choose your Fashion Week look?
I base my outfits on what I feel comfortable in. I see no point straying away from your own style just to attention seek towards being a papped icon on the cobbles! I’ve made the mistake of ridiculous shoes before too. Heels would be nice, but realistically they don’t bode well for the Somerset House cobbles and don’t make for the perfect shoe to be running from show to show in!

What was your favourite look this year?
This year I went for a very comfortable look, maintaining my pinky personal style and topping my look off with some classic Ray Bans. My statement piece had to be my hair – I recently went pink and the Friday of fashion week was it’s proper debut! …if I’m totally honest, I care more about catching up with blogger friends, and spotting the cute dogs taken along for the fashion-y fun!
