Mother’s Day will be taking place on Sunday but Italian fashion house Dolce and Gabbana have been getting ready early this year with their catwalk show at Milan Fashion Week; dedicated to motherhood and all the mothers’ in the world.
Simply titled ‘Viva La Mamma‘, Domenico Dolce and Stefani Gabbana proved the old addage that Italian men love their mothers with this stunning and powerful AW15 collection. Allegedly the invitations for the catwalk show were illustrated with children’s drawings with messages of ‘ti amo mama’ (I love you, mum) whilst the show itself behaved as the most stylish family portrait of all time. Women, clad in Dolce and Gabbana’s colourful pieces, carried babies and toddlers down the runway; some of the models were even expectant mothers which was a refreshing change to the usual conventional models on the catwalk.
The collection itself reflected the theme with messages of celebration in sequins, child-like illustrations printed on silk, pastel hues, floral patterns and jewel encrusted ear-phones as the finishing touches. The 1950s and ’60s were also a heavy influence with pencil skirts, , twee blouses and prim swing jackets creating a quirky subverted world of the wholesome housewife. Incredibly chic and proof that good style doesn’t have to end with motherhood, we can honestly say we were inspired by Dolce and Gabbana’s unique approach to next seasons hottest looks.
