Giorgio Armani require little introduction. Proudly fashion royalty for decades, they have transformed luxury style time after time. In particular, excellence of design and innovation establish Giorgio Armani as a leading eyewear brand each season.
Giorgio Armani, the man behind the creative magic, was born in Piancenza, Italy, son of a shipping manager. Experiencing the hardships of World War II firsthand, he had a tough upbringing. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Armani described how the cinema in Milan was a ‘refuge- a palace of dreams- and the movies stars seemed so glamorous. I fell in love with the idealised beauty of Hollywood stars.’ Giorgio’s early interest with the human form led to him studying in medicine for a short period before having to complete his required military service. During a break from this service, Armani got a job in a department store and began assisting the photographer as a window dresser.
His talents became immediately apparent and he went on to work as a designer for a men’s clothing company, Hitman. In 1975, his own label began to be developed and Giorgio Armani was born. The clothing Armani created caught the eyes of the elite, as he appealed to them with his eye for aesthetics and luxury. During the 1980’s, Armani’s fashion was revolutionary. Transforming the wardrobes of professional women, taking them out of floral skirts and putting them into elegant and smart deconstructed pantsuits, he has created a strong legacy.
The Armani name dominates the fashion industry in 2017, with sub-brands like Emporio Armani, Armani Jeans and Armani Exchange. Armani has made headlines recently announcing supermodel Cara Delevigne as the new face of Armani Exchange for AW17. Delevigne tweeted ‘I’ve always been a fan of the Armani Fashion house… honoured to be featured in the FW Campaign!!!’ Lines for all fashion, womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, cosmetics, watches, bags, shoes and eyewear, are created by the brand. This year’s Oscar Awards saw big names like Nicole Kidman, Isabelle Huppert and Viola Davis wearing elegant and glamorous gowns by Armani. The AW17 collection was eyecatching and modern. Proudly closing Milan Fashion Week, as he does every season, the collection showcased included a tailored trouser-skirt hybrid for an innovative work look. As well as this models walked in jewel coloured velvet blazers and a luxury shiny black gown made up of tiers of sequin tablets.
