Salvatore Ferragamo’s launch of their new collection is creating a spirit of summer excitement at B Sunglasses this week. Their new eyewear is modern, edgy and fresh, created under the expertise of the new trio of creative talent at the head of the brand.
Salvatore Ferragamo was born in 1898 in Bonito, Italy and he found his calling for fashion from a young age. At the mere age of nine, he made his first pair of shoes for his sister to wear on her confirmation. Salvatore went on to study shoemaking in Naples after convincing his father of his talent. Joining the wave of Italian immigrants moving to the United States, Salvatore boarded a slow boat at fourteen. This move would change the rest of his life and lead him to become known as the “shoemaker to the stars.”
After a short period of time in his Hollywood Boot Shop in Boulevard Las Palmas, Salvatore realised the USA workforce would not bring the desired success. He travelled back to Italy and set up his headquarters in Florence and continued his work for the American public from there. The list of stars Salvatore designed shoes for is outstanding. Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Ava Gardner, Sophia Lauren, Audrey Hepburn and many more. Creativity was key for his designs and Salvatore sought to combine high fashion, luxury and comfort. Salvatore was innovative in his use of materials to provide comfort and luxury, despite the challenging restrictions imposed by war.
Salvatore Ferragamo continues to be a major player in the luxury goods industry and still focusses on creative footwear as well as leather goods, clothing, silk products and, of course, eyewear. The new eyewear collection by Salvatore Ferragamo channels a modern and unique style. The collection moves away from previous European glamour style towards a fresh and edgy character appealing to a huge audience.
A new trio of creative of talent is transcending the brand forward. The creative department is a trio of new designers who strive to continue to modernise the luxury brand. Design Director of Women’s RTW is Fulvio Rigoni: Italian by birth and international by vocation, he is famous for his work in major fashion labels worldwide. Paul Andrew is the Design Director of Women’s footwear, a star of creativity winning the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2014. Finally, the latest addition to the team is Guillaume Meilland, the Design Director of Men’s RTW previously working for celebrated brands like Yves Saint Laurent and Lanvin.
Eraldo Pro-letto, Salvatore Ferragamo’s CEO, said of the new team: “I am convinced that the work of these three designers, each with his own unique background but all united by their love of beautiful design and an immense, innate creativity in the service of research and innovation, will contribute to further strengthen our brand’s image, which the company has always developed upon the foundation of its internationalism.”
Years ago we stocked Salvatore Ferragamo and now we have decided to relaunch the brand due to their new exciting collection which we feel is the perfect fit for the B Sunglasses consumer.
