A blog highlighting the best from fashion month.
Paris fashion week closed this week, bringing a close to fashion month, meaning that the catwalk shows of the big four are over until later this year. To celebrate we thought we’d give a rundown of the highlights from some of the most celebrated designers in world fashion.
Held between 11-18th February, New York fashion week is where anyone who is anyone in the world of US fashion can be found. One of the main talking points from New York was Lady Gaga walking in the Marc Jacobs show. The Marc Jacobs collection included sky-high, PVC platform wedges teamed with outerwear that was oversized and full of character. The weeks proceedings were brought to an end by the living legend of American fashion Ralph Lauren. The septuagenarian’s show was vintage Ralph Lauren and could easily have been from years gone by, proving that his is a style that is utterly timeless.
The London edition of fashion week took place between 19-23rd February at Somerset House in Central London. The big news in London this year was the return of McQueen to the capital after a 15-year hiatus. The show did not disappoint as the collection displayed all the trademarks of their famous Paris shows with dream inspired garments flowing down the catwalk. Another return was that of the iconic outerwear brand Mulberry. A new creative director saw a slight deviation from the classic simplistic designs and colours, with eye-catching colour-block bags proving real show stealers.
The Italian edition of fashion week was held between 24th February -1st March. Milan is transformed into a thriving fashion metropolis where old palazzos become the epicenter of the fashion world. All of the big names synonymous with haute couture were present, such as Gucci, Prada, and Versace to name just a few. Miuccia Prada stole the headlines with her brilliance that further cemented the brands reputation as the leading light of Italian fashion. The Prada collection displayed the full wealth that the brand can call on, from eclectic accessorising on the high fashion garments to the floral print more casual items.
Paris fashion week runs from March 1st-9th and is arguably the most famous fashion week of them all. Nobody does fashion quite like the French and Paris fashion week is the perfect manifestation of the class and charisma that oozes from our neighbours across the channel. Karl Lagerfeld’s theatrical nous was in full effect again this year as he had his Chanel models navigate their way through a maze of chairs, which ingeniously gave the entire crowd a front row seat. The Saint Laurent showcase was an ode to the original shows carried out by the fashion house, in which their was no soundtrack and merely an announcer introducing each model as they took to the runway.
