2016 Teen Choice Awards: Recap

2016 Teen Choice Awards

This year’s Teen Choice Awards was held in Inglewood, California at The Forum to celebrate the year’s achievements in music, film, television, sports, fashion, comedy, and the Internet. They were all voted on by viewers aged 13 through 19 through various social media sites and the event was hosted by none other than Victoria Justice and John Cena.
The event saw Flo Rida take to the stage to perform four of his hit singles, including ‘My House’, ‘Good Feeling’, ‘Zillionaire’ and ‘Wild Ones’ which he brought Bebe Rexha on stage to help him with. As well as some incredible performances from the likes of Charlie Puth, who performed his hit single ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’. Other noteable performances came from Ne-Yo who sang ‘What’s Going On’ and Jason Derulo who performed ‘Touch the Sky’.
The acts with the most nominations included Justin Bieber, TV show Pretty Little Liars and movie Captain America: Civil war.
One of the most notable awards was the Choice Music: Male Artist award. The nominees were Justin Bieber, Drake, Nick Jonas, Zayn Malik, Shawn Mendes, and Charlie Puth. Zayn Malik has seen success after his split from one direction and has received mainly positivity when in the spotlight, and Drake has had an undeniably outstanding year of music, but there was only going to be one winner in this category. Justin Bieber has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years where he appears to have developed his sound with a certain maturity, whilst grinding out banger after banger.
The Choice Music: Female award had even tougher competition. The nominees included Beyoncé, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Rihanna and Taylor Swift. All of the nominations had a valid claim to be crowd the queen of this award, Rihanna coming off the back of the success of ‘work’, Beyonce being Beyonce, Ariana Grande has seen nothing but success with tracks like ‘Dangerous Woman’. But it was Selena Gomez that took the award home following her second studio album debuting at number 1 in the billboard charts in 2015 and her first three singles all getting to number 1.
The Choice Summer Movie award went to none other than this summers most anticipated film, Finding Dory. The new Disney blockbuster has gotten everybody excited for its release and it’s great to see the initial screenings of the movie has been well received. Deadpool picked up Choice Movie: Action award as well as the slightly niche award for Choice Movie: Hissy fit. Ryan Reynolds has become a bit of a cult hero following the success of the film.
