Alexander McQueen’s spring/summer 2018 collection is full of drama. Bold frames and unique designs give each pair of sunglasses that McQueen edge that you need for your summer style.
The McQueen name has been making headlines for more than just their new collection recently. Only a few weeks ago, a biopic of Alexander McQueen’s life named McQueen premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. It’s now eight years since Sarah Burton became creative director of the fashion house following McQueen’s tragic suicide in 2010. But McQueen’s name and life is still an enthralling topic of conversation in the fashion world. McQueen grew from a tailor’s apprentice from south London to work for designer houses like Givenchy, and then to head his own brand later.
McQueen, which was hugely anticipated for months, delves into the McQueen’s life but also explores the myths that circulate around him and his personal life. The film features archival footage and interviews with McQueen’s close friends, collaborators, and family members. As well as exploring McQueen’s creativity and successful career that has left a long-standing impression on fashion and modern style, the biopic also uncovers his struggles with mental illness and addiction. These tragic but eye-opening moments are dotted between big reveals and surprising fun facts about McQueen. Did you know that McQueen refused to show his face in the press during his first few seasons because he was technically unemployed? Or that he chose to use his middle name Alexander, over his first name Lee, to head his brand because Isabella Blow advised him it sounded more posh. Maybe that McQueen dedicated his spring 1997 show “13” to his dog Minter. This McQueen trivia and the other reveals create a fuller picture of McQueen and celebrates his work and life.
McQueen ‘s legacy has been continued with the same strength by Sarah Burton since his death. Burton’s preview of the fall collection for this year is edgy and stunning. The collection has a mash of both fragile, romantic garments, and ones with a more tailored edge. Androgynous tailoring is paired with decadent lace, knit and embroidered pieces for a dark romanticism and a timelessly irresistible style. As well as this, Burton showcased evening wear with high-shine sequins and a floor-length chiffon gown covered with embroidered floral patterns. We’ve only just got over our excitement for the summer collection, but now the pre-fall pieces have us on the edge of our seats.
The new sunglasses from McQueen on out site are daring and full of drama. Spring/Summer 2018 introduces a new construction to the Piercing collection, featuring a signature metal bar that pierces directly through the metal frame. The frames come in two unisex styles – a faceted shield and a classic round shape – with a mini stud on each end of the temples.
The faceted shield frames are urban and modern. They add a little edge to your summer look.
Alternatively, the round frames are a more classic shape, but are still given that McQueen character with the piercing brow bar. Both styles come in three colourways: Gold; Ruthenium; and black.
